Myopia (nearsightedness)

If you are nearsighted, you see well at short distances, but distant objects appear blurred. Myopia generally first appears during puberty. It can progress until about 23 years of age and stays present for life.

As a rule, myopic people see near-by objects well after a certain age, without glasses or contacts; when wearing glasses, objects appear blurred at a short distance (unless an additional reading correction is used).

Myopia can be corrected by eye surgery under appropriate conditions.
