How does a laser treatment work?

Visual defects are often corrected by refractive surgery using laser radiation. A laser of the Excimer type is used to shape, or remodel, the cornea so that incoming light beams converge correctly again. There are different procedures, according to the technique used. One of the safest and most precise is the one using a femtosecond laser. It is performed in minimal time and requires no mechanical contact with the cornea. But VEDIS also carries out the following operations: classical LASIK, PRK / LASEK / EPI-LASIK, special laser programs and customized LASIK.

PRK is used since 1989. It is the precursor of the LASIK method, but it is still used (also in the form of LASEK or EPI-LASIK) in patients whose cornea is not thick enough to allow a LASIK operation.

LASIK, with or without femtosecond laser, is the main refractive-surgery method used today. About 90% of visual defects can be corrected with this technique. Two different types of femtosecond lasers can be used to prepare the corneal flap required for a LASIK treatment, as well as microkeratomes.

VEDIS uses two different types of Excimer laser to shape the cornea. Both devices are equipped with the Flying Spot technology, an up-to-date eye-tracking system, and with state-of-the-art support equipment.
