Special laser programs
All methods of treatment can be combined with the special laser programs that we offer. These include programs for the control of treatment by topography or by aberrometry. They are included in the price of the treatment. Furthermore, special tissue-saving ablation profiles can be applied (tissue saving, pro-asphere).
For the treatment of the cornea, our Excimer lasers offer laser-beam algorithms that ensure minimum invasiveness of the treatment. Special radiation profiles of the Excimer lasers optimize the factors: duration of treatment, quantity of stromal ablation, and quality of the stromal surface. The latest generation of aspherical algorithms permits optimization of the postoperative results for visual acuity and twilight vision. The treatment is adapted to the shape of the cornea (analysis of the cornea) and to the dimension of the pupil (pupillometer) of each patient to ensure an optimal individual aspheric treatment.
A small pupil diameter (e.g. 3 mm) usually enhances contrast vision. A large pupil diameter (e.g. 7 mm) reduces contrast. Special ablation algorithms reduce potential optical factors of influence and improve the contrast even when the pupil opening is large.
Customized laser treatments (topolink, wave-front ablation)
Customized LASIK is based on the combination of subjective refraction and precise topographical analysis of the cornea (topolink) or on the determination of refraction errors and high-level aberrations (aberrometer).
The aim is to attain an optimal quality of the image formed, by eliminating individual irregularities of the cornea that cannot be corrected by glasses or contact lenses.
The necessary measurements of the cornea and the eye are performed with high-tech diagnostic tools, and an individual ablation profile is then established using special software. The irregular surface before the operation can thus be transformed into a surface giving perfectly clear images. After the operation, each point of the cornea has the curvature previously calculated. This method therefore permits – contrary to the standard LASIK method – to eliminate individual irregularities of the cornea.
In certain cases this procedure is 10 to 15% more precise than the standard LASIK method. This is because the quality of reproduction of the image is now optimal in any point of the cornea. A thorough preliminary examination allows us to determine which patients may benefit from a customized treatment. This method requires an eye-tracking system as well as a laser of the Flying Spot type (Laser technique). The VEDIS centers are equipped with these devices.
